Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture Analysis:

An Ode to Flowers

In my Contemporary Fashion Class I was tasked with creating an Analysis of a Collection of my choosing. In this analysis we had to explore the inspiration, design features and overall perceptions of our chosen collection. I choose to further explore the inspiration behind the Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture show. I was chosen to have my analysis used as an example for VCU future classes.

John Galliano presented a brilliant and colorful collection at his Dior Fall 2010 Couture Show. He not only incorporated many of Christian Dior’s early design silhouettes but used the show as a nod to the founder Dior himself. Galliano infused Dior’s classic styles such as the Tulip Dress and the “New Look” with rich fabrics and colors to create a show that truly dazzled. He used Dior’s love and study of flowers as a basis of the motif of the collection. The floral designs made it appear as if the audience was seated around a life-sized garden with Galliano acting as the gardener. Galliano even mimic’s Christian Dior’s timing in a push for femininity as 2010 was faced with many struggles across the globe and Galliano used his collection to create an oasis for the audience to escape in and bring the focus back on women’s silhouettes and beauty. This paper will further explore the Dior Fall 2010 Couture collection in depth by looking at Galliano’s influences and the details of his designs.
